About Us

Colleges Against Cancer at UCI is one branch of a nationwide coalition of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer. We focus our efforts on four areas: Advocacy, Cancer Education, Relay for Life, and Survivorship.

  1.   Advocacy is a national movement of lobbying to increase cancer awareness and change policies regarding cancer prevention and research. Students lobby for change, not only taking action for a better university campus, but also a better state and a better nation.

2.   Cancer Education helps to recognize and promote programs of the American Cancer Society by focusing on those directly relevant to college students. By teaching fellow college students about cancer prevention and early detection, we can increase awareness of what will dramatically reduce their chances of developing cancer later in life.

      3.   Relay for Life is our largest event every year, and last year, our Relay enabled over 100 teams to raise over $30,000 for the American Cancer Society. Every year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back.

      4.   Survivorship celebrates everyone who has or has had cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates there are more than 15.5 million cancer survivors alive today in the U.S. Survivors, and their fights against this terrible disease, are our hope and inspiration, and our reason to keep fighting back against cancer.

Relay for Life

The next annual RELAY FOR LIFE is April 14-15, 2018! The theme is Holidays and Seasons,  so mark your calendar, and come out for a magical experience filled with hope, remembrance, and celebration. You can register for relay, make or join a team, and donate to participants here:
Relay For Life is an event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against this terrible disease.

At our UCI Relay, teams of students and members of the local community camp out in Aldrich Park and take turns walking or running around a track. Since cancer never sleeps, Relay is a 24 hour event. Relayers do not have to walk all night, but each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Funds raised through Relay For Life help support the work of the American Cancer Society.

Here’s a short video that explains what Relay for Life is all about:
